Alan D. Boyd

Alan D. Boyd is a British/Canadian composer, producer and songwriter able to offer a unique approach to any brief. With a background encompassing such diverse disciplines as scoring, live performance, management and location recording Alan brings a wealth of creative and technical expertise as well as a genuine passion for music.

After settling in London in 1994, Alan formed the musical collective Little Sparta, allowing him the freedom to fully explore both his innate songwriting sensibilities and his love for cinematic scores, resulting in a highly distinctive blend of genres.

Alan’s passion for film is evident in all his compositions and he soon caught the attention of producers and directors in the UK and North America. Since then, he has composed and produced for the BBC, C4, The Discovery Channel and the National Film Board of Canada. His score to the new TV production of The Day of the Triffids garnered a nomination in the Best Music category of Televisual Magazine’s Bulldog Awards.

Whether evoking the terror of man-eating plants threatening the survival of mankind, the thrill of racing shopping carts down mountain highways or the simple wonder of shadow theatre, Alan’s scores always add further dimension to a production while remaining faithful to the author's original vision.

The Day Of The Triffids

Composer Alan D. Boyd developed the initial themes for The Day of the Triffids over a period of many months consulting with director Nocholas Copus with whom he has been a long time collaborator. The ideas he presented won over the producers and were expanded to create a cohesive score that captures the intensity and drama of a post-apocalyptic world without compromising the emotional story at the heart of this modern version.

Working closely with Felix Erskine, whose skill and experience as an orchestrator belie his age, the music developed to be a truly grand rendition of the  original ideas. The result is a suitably tense epic score equally at home on the big and small screens.

The Day of the Triffids was mixed in 5.1 and is available to buy on DVD in the UK from February 1st 2010. The score album will be available soon.
