Felix Erskine

Last year Felix worked with Grammy Award winning producer Steve McLaughlin on Matthew Vaughn's Kick Ass, Neil Marshall’s Roman epic Centurion, and with BAFTA award winning composer Martin Phipps on Brighton Rock, starring Helen Mirren and John Hurt.

Felix began to work with leading UK film composer Ilan Eshkeri in 2005. This led to significant contributions on several major films such as Layer Cake, Stardust, The Young Victoria and the Wachowski Brothers action film Ninja Assassin, produced by Warner Brothers. In 2011 Felix has worked on The Retreat, which features Cillian Murphy, Jamie Bell and Thandie Newton. Working on productions at this level has led Felix to compose the score for the award wining film The Dead Outside directed by Kerry Anne Mullaney which won Best Feature Film at the Trieste Film Festival and was nominated for the BAFTA Scotland Award .

Felix's orchestral compositions have been performed and recorded by both the London Metropolitan Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He has worked with Brian Eno, The Cinematic Orchestra and Travis. His music is also featured on the BAFTA award winning BBC mini series Day Of The Triffids 2010 which featured Dougary Scott, Joley Richardson, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Izzard and Brian Cox. He also worked on Strike Back, Waking the Dead, Trial & Retribution, National Geographic documentaries and advertising campaigns for charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support and Save the Children.

Felix studied at the Royal College of Music, in London

The Day Of The Triffids

Composer Alan D. Boyd developed a concept for the music over a period of many months. The themes he presented initially won over the director and producer and were expanded to create a cohesive score contributing to the individual characterisation as well as the overarching themes in the film. Working closely with Felix Erskine, whose skill and experience as an orchestrator belie his age, developing the themes into full orchestral pieces. The result is a suitably tense and at times hollywood-esque epic film score equally at home on the big screen. Mixed in 5.1 surround sound it is almost a shame that a lot of people won't have the chance to see it in an environment that does that music justice.

The Day of the Triffids aired on BBC 1 on 28th and 29th December.
