Felix Erskine
Recently, Felix has been focusing on film and television music. In 2005 he caught the attention of the leading UK film scomposer Ilan Eshkeri. This fruitful association has lead to significant contributions on several major films produced in recent years including Layer Cake, Stardust, The Young Victoria and The Crimson Wing. Felix has just finished writing additional music for the new Wachowski brothers film Ninja Assassin produced by Warner Brothers.
He also composed the score for the award-winning film 'The Dead Outside' directed by Kerry Anne Mullaney, which won Best Picture and Best Director Photography in 2009.
His orchestral compositions have been performed and recorded by both
the London Metropolitan Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
and his ability to work alongside leading orchestral players and
conductors is a vital part of his work. Prior to film scoring Felix
worked with pop artists including Brian Eno, Travis, The Cinematic
Orchestra and Eclipse Strings. his music is featured on BBC's Waking
The Dead, ITV's Trial & Retribution, National Geographic
documentaries and campaigns for charities such as Macmillan Cancer
Support and Save The Children.
Felix trained in composition at the Royal College of Music.
The Day Of The Triffids
Composer
Alan D. Boyd developed a concept for the music over a period of many
months. The themes he presented initially won over the director and
producer and were expanded to create a cohesive score contributing to
the individual characterisation as well as the overarching themes in
the film. Working closely with Felix Erskine, whose skill and
experience as an orchestrator belie his age, developing the
themes into full orchestral pieces. The result is a suitably tense and
at times hollywood-esque epic film score equally at home on the big
screen. Mixed in 5.1 surround sound it is almost a shame that a lot of
people won't have the chance to see it in an environment that does that
music justice.
The Day of the Triffids aired on BBC 1 on 28th and 29th December.
